This is a rare opportunity to visit one of the largest heathlands in Surrey that is normally an active military range. This is a joint meeting with Surrey Wildlife Trust. Members from BENHS and LNHS are most welcome. Please inform the leader if you intend to attend.
Location/Meeting point: Henley Gate, Ash Range RDA, Pirbright, Surrey, GU24 0DH. The Henley Gate dirt track is accessible at a cross roads between the A324 Pirbright Road, and Cobbett Hill Rd. (SU939535) https://goo.gl/maps/TNzcYUnNkecj6hsu7 Car parking is available on site. Meeting time: 10.30am. Please note that moth trapping will be possible but details have yet to be finalised.
Site access: Recording will focus on the area around Henley Gate, with an interesting mosaic of habitats, including wet and dry heath and woodland, mires, ponds and wet grassland. Access further into the site via 4×4 can be arranged. Please ensure you inform us if you will be disturbing any ground to survey as pre-checks and risk assessments will need to be completed.
It is anticipated that there will be a leader available to organise moth trapping in the evening.
