Date Provisional .
Meet at 20.30 at meet-up point TF 71868 10851, which is a small car-parking area down a no-through road near Donato’s Pizza & Kebab House on the main road through the small village of Marham.
The site is called a fen, and there are small remnants of fen vegetation to which we will pay special attention. These include a reedbed, a sedge bed and areas of mixed tall herbs and forbs. The remainder of the site is secondary woodland with areas of mature trees, some covered in Ivy, and with thickets which include Wild Privet as well as Hawthorn and Blackthorn.
The site belongs to Anglian Water and has a track which runs in a circuit within the woodland, from which we can run light-traps at various points.
The County Moth Recorder for Norfolk, Jim Wheeler, states “this site definitely needs some more trapping…it was last trapped in 1998 and 1999, by the Norfolk Moth Group.
A successful leaf-mine meeting was held there in 2016 with John Langmaid and Brian Elliott. Species we will be particularly looking for include Obscure Wainscot, Oblique Carpet and Dotted Fan-foot, and perhaps even a late Concolorous.”
